Tankless Water Heater Benefits
Endless Hot Water
Gas and electric tankless water heaters heat water on demand and provide a never-ending hot water supply.
Longer Lifespan
With proper maintenance, the average tankless water heater can last up to 20 years, while a conventional one lasts only 8 to 12 years.
Energy-Efficient
Electric and gas tankless water heaters use less energy than traditional ones and are EPA Energy Star-approved.
Space-Saving
The compact design of a tankless water heater frees up valuable room in your home or business. The typical dimensions are 20” in width, 28” in height, and 10” in depth.
Electric vs. Gas Tankless Water Heaters
Two primary power sources for a tankless water heater are electricity and gas. So, you might be asking, “Should I get an electric or gas tankless water heater?” And that’s a great question! Explore our informative article explaining electric vs. gas tankless water heaters to learn more. You can also contact one of our experts to help you decide which option is right for you.
Electric Tankless Water Heater Features
With precise temperature control and efficient heating elements, electric tankless water heaters are an excellent choice for small—to medium-sized households seeking a reliable and energy-efficient hot water solution. Additionally, they tend to be more affordable than gas heaters.
- Eco-friendly: Electric tankless water heaters offer a convenient and eco-friendly solution for on-demand hot water. While they use electricity to heat the water, it is often less than a conventional water heater, saving you on your electricity bill. An electric water heater does not create emissions.
- Water Output: Electric heaters tend to have lower hot water output than gas heaters. To compensate for this, larger tanks could be installed (Larger water tanks can heat water for extended periods but may lead to higher operating costs over time.)
- Flexible Installation: They’re compact and require no venting, making them suitable for various locations.
Gas Tankless Water Heater Features
- Eco-Friendly: These units can deliver higher flow rates and faster heating compared to electric models by utilizing natural gas or propane. Gas water heaters are one of the cleanest burning fossil fuels, yet they still release carbon into the air.
- Water Output: Gas heaters have an average recovery rate of about 50 gallons per hour and can heat a tank almost as soon as it is filled.
- Installation: Gas water heaters need access to a gas line, which might mean putting it in a less-than-ideal spot or needing a plumber to run a gas line to wherever you want your tank to be set up

Tankless Hot Water Heater FAQs
Q: How much do tankless water heaters and installation cost?
A: Most residential tankless water heaters cost between $1,000 to $2,000 in materials. The installation runs anywhere between $2,000 to $4,000, provided that the new water heater is matched to the old system. The installation price will rise, however, if we need to install a gas line, new vent, or make other significant upgrades.
No job is too big for our experienced plumbers—the largest tankless system we installed was a commercial project for $17,000 that involved multiple heaters working together.
Q: Does Robinson’s Plumbing sell water heaters?
A: We only sell water heaters if you use us to install them. We’ll provide expert advice and help you select the right model to meet your needs. We will then install and warranty your new water heater.
Q: Should I opt for a gas or electric tankless water heater?
A: The choice between gas or electric tankless water heaters can affect your energy bill. If you decide to go with gas, keep in mind that if you don’t have a gas line that can supply sufficient BTUs to your new heater, your gas line will need to be upgraded. Electric tankless water heaters have lower heating capacities and are usually only suitable for one fixture group. There are trade offs with each, but we typically only recommend gas water heaters for whole house water heating.
